Japanese Feudal System
The Japanese feudal system lasted from 12th to the 19th century. During this period the daimyo provided the shogun with warriors in exchange for land. Warfare made the warriors the most important class, as they were constantly fighting for their people. The people of feudal Japan depended on the warriors.
You were often born into your family trade. If your parents were farmers, you would most likely become a farmer. If your parents were Lords you would become a lord, ect.
The samurai served their local lords. They were to recite an oath. If there Daimyo was assasinated they were to commit seppuku as this was part of the oath that you must recite to become part of the Japanese military forces. Seppuku was another word for suicide, except a special method was used. The samurai was bathed, he put on a white robe, he then was given his favourite meal. He then sat in front of the crowd that had gathered to see him live his final moments, he would most likely be seated on special cloths, his instruments that would be used to kill him were sat on a plate infront of him this was call a tantō, he was given a peice of paper and ink to write his death poem which would most likely end with:
Sadness overcomes me as I am unable to fulfill my duty for my
country,
Bullets and arrows are no more
I, falling in the field without revenge,
Will be reborn to take up my sword again.
When ugly weeds run riot over this island,
My heart and soul will be with the fate of the Imperial
nation.
He would then take his tanto or short sword (wakazishi) and plant the sword into his abdomen, cutting from left to write untill he were to die.
